Today we are going to tackle4 Ways to Improve Patient Satisfaction
Insulin is a hormone that allows glucose to go from the blood stream into the cells for energy or storage. It now comes in multiple forms to allow you to provide your patient with the most physiologic support possible.
1. Ask why they came in
This is particularly important in a new patient encounter or an emergency visit. If they think that they are there for low back pain, and you are addressing their blood pressure and cholesterol, they will leave without their concern being addressed and be disappointed in the interaction, no matter how good you were. If you are not the doctor to deal with that issue, let them know. SET THE EXPECTATION, and redirect them to someone who can help
2. Review any records they bring in
Even a cursory review helps the patient feel heard. Again, that may not be your issue to address, but letting them know and giving them steps to resolve their concerns are appreciated.
3. Don’t feel pressured to address all of the issues in one visit
“Mrs. Jones, I understand that you have A-Z issues. We will deal with A, B, and C today and have you come back to see how those are doing and address D and E.” I know I have said it before but you must SET THE EXPECTATION. Patients are dissatisfied when they are disappointed.
4. SIT DOWN!
The perception of time spent in a room is always longer if you sit down. There is an uncomfortable power dynamic at play if you are standing over the patient through the visit and they will perceive you as rushed. Also ask if they have any questions before you stand up.
